We take a fresh, evidence-based approach toward improving the transition from prison to community for an important segment of the returning federal prison population: those who are being “released early” through sentence modifications made possible by revisions in sentencing guidelines and those being released as the result of Presidential commutations.
Project New Opportunity complements the Bureau of Prison’s reentry efforts and Federal Probation’s supervision by connecting the returning federal prisoner to family members and social supports, agencies and programs in the community to which he or she will return, seeking appropriate resources and constructive outlets for the person who is leaving prison, and solving some of the frustrating problems that confront people leaving prison in advance.
